Dorothy Elizabeth Greenwood (nee Lecture) quietly passed away on April 17, 2015, in the Phoebe Home, Allentown, PA. Raised in the Frankford section of Philadelphia, she graduated from Frankford High School in January, 1940. Dorothy held several prestigious jobs including personal secretary to Howard Ehmke (star pitcher of the Philadelphia Athletics) at Ehmke Manufacturing; Executive Secretary to William Kinter, former US Ambassador to Thailand under Gerald Ford, at the renown Foreign Policy Research Institute associated with the University of Pennsylvania; and with the US State Department under Robert Strausz-Hupé, former US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Belgium, Sweden, and NATO. Strausz-Hupé invited her to become his personal assistant when he was appointed the US Ambassador to Turkey. She lived and worked in Ankara from 1983 to 1987. After her retirement from the State Department, she resided at Dock Woods, Lansdale, for twelve years. There she volunteered in several troubled-youth programs. During her final illness she was a resident of the Phoebe Nursing Home, Allentown.
She is survived by sons Ralf of Alburtis, Carl of Seattle, WA, and Bruce, of Deining, Germany, daughters-in-law Linda and Karen, and granddaughter Noel.
A memorial service will be held at the Macungie Christian Community, 126 S. Church Street, Macungie at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27th. Arrangements by Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, Allentown.
